In 2008 Pantry EAST distributed 263,192 meals. Pantry WEST distributed 65,712 meals. I sometimes think, how would these families have food to eat if COOL did not exist? This year COOL has lost a staggering amount of funding. What does this mean for the Pantries? This means that both Pantry EAST and Pantry WEST will have to rely on donations to be able to fill the boxes for our guests. This is a very economically challenging time for everyone. Please find it in your hearts to help your Lake County neighbors who are struggling too.
Spring is here and summer is not far behind. The children will soon be out of school for summer break. During the school year many low income students eat breakfast and lunch at school thus eliminating ten meals per week served at home. The number of children served will soon be on the rise. Please consider holding special food collections during the summer months to feed the children of Lake County.
I would like to remind everyone when it comes time to plant your gardens this year please consider planting a row for your hungry neighbors in Lake County. We had many positive comments from the visitors. Healthy eating is critical for many of our guests.
The COOL Food Pantry is seeing an increasing number of guests requiring special nutritional needs. We have been able to meet some of their needs utilizing our new low salt, low fat & sugar free diet shelf. With the need becoming so great we need your help to keep this shelf stocked. Please remember ethnic and kosher foods.
